The WA government is currently holding an inquiry into short-term holiday letting.

BnbGuard has shared with us their submission, which sets out the current global best practice when it comes to short term letting.

Their suggestions include:

? Compulsory licensing for fine-grained control and immediate response

? Tight rules for investor short term lets

? Make Professional short term lets follow the same safety rules as other commercial tourist accommodation

? Flexibility for local communities to experiment and respond quickly to local problems

? Independent enforcement targeting availability instead of booking days

? The key for any STL policy is to separate the two STL industries: the Professionals vs the Mums & Dads – to allow for smart regulation of both.
