Strata managers have weathered a tough 12-months, with intense media scrutiny and major law reform. In this week’s podcast, current SCA (NSW) President Robert Anderson joins me to explain the steps SCA is taking to restore trust, support members through the reform process, and tackle misconceptions. From overhauling complaints processes to rolling out mandatory audits and a new Code of Ethics, Robert shares what’s happening behind the scenes — and what’s next for the future of strata.

  1. Lots of new legalisation happening which is great. One consideration for change which I feel will improve things greatly, develop more understanding and reduce issues with Strata managers and also withing the owner’s corporation.
All strata owners not only committee members need to do training. This way owners are educated and understand all areas of strata. It will definitely reduce the pressure on the Strata managers

  2. Hi
Whilst I appreciate that strata is in the midst of reform – I object to the inference that strata has had to endure a tough time. Exposing this industry has been long overdue and is only started. There is a long way to go and dare say a bumpy road ahead.
Owners corporations have been held at ransom for way too long. We have seen strata managing agenda divest their previous roles to establish other entities such as building managing companies, vertical integration models and carved out new business’ to squeeze “value” for their own gain. This industry has grown enormously over the past 10 years.
The reform must, and ought to be accelerated and expanded to expose and reform building and construction firms, insurance company’s etc that seem to have a price for owners of the traditional – house and land versus a strata complex, where there is price gouging and kickback scams. I have seen evidence of a x 2/3 increase in pricing for a like for like fence! It can’t be defended nor justified.
You know it and I have experienced it!
I’m sorry, but I do not have any sympathy for those having to manage their business through a reform that has been unregulated for way too long.
I congratulate the ABC for forcing it and the SCA but support the process or they will loose confidence of those of us who have to live in strata complexes. Their professional credibility is on the line.
