Lot owner Cate Morrison is fresh from (another) win in the NSW Tribunal. She joins me for this week’s podcast to share:
- as a non-lawyer, how she prepares her case for the best chance of success,
- her cross-examination technique,
- her top tips for other strata owners and committee members self-representing in the tribunal.

What a WARRIOR !! Great stuff I have been there many times I lost the application for a Compulsory SM I was against 3 lot owners. They sold and moved out after 3 mths.
It was draconian and disgraceful they took alot of money from us.
I totally agree with everything you have said it all depends on the day and the Member you get. Very hard at times to get a word in.
Your other lot owners should be very grateful and proud of you looking after them so well. I’m also the single committee member and we self manage I find it easy to accomplish we now live in our “happy place”
Congratulations ❤️
Thanks for sharing that Cate. Lots of good tips. Having been in the same position as you I know how it feels!
One thing I was a little thrown by in my hearing was the time allotted for the hearing. We were just told the date and time, but NOT that only a half-day was allocated. So we ended up running out of time (mainly because the applicant went on and on) so we had to adjourn for several weeks.
If I were to do it again I would ask the member how much time was allowed and have them allocate reasonable amounts of time for each party to make their case, cross-examine and sum up.
Please help me!
